During last summer I was wondering what to do with holidays. I desperately needed a break, but did not know what to do. I did not want to go and lie on a beach. Albany Portfolio told me about this wine tour in Bordeaux. It sounded interesting, especially since the organizers, a lovely Dutch couple as it turned out, promised a no-nonsense attitude and approach to vintage wines. As a future investor I thought this might just be my cup of tea, or glass of 1er Cru, if you like. I have tasted so many disappointing Bordeaux wines that I had begun to wonder what the fuss was all about. The tour was splendid. There were only nine of us, a small group, with a most comfortable bus to take us around all the Chateaux we visited. I cannot even begin to describe the wines we tasted and the food that was designed to go with it. It was an eye opener for me and all of us, most of whom anyway are far more experienced than me and have been investing in wine for a long time.
If you really want to deepen your knowledge of wine and what goes into producing a remarkable vintage, I thoroughly recommend The Bordeaux Wine Experience. Ronald and Margaret Rens have designed well-organized, if physically demanding tours, but you certainly come home with much more appreciation and every penny is worth it. A once-in a-life-time experience.
